The Phoenix Garden is a community garden and is managed by local residents and workers in the area. As a garden it is open every day of the year for people to enjoy.
As an organisation we work within our local community to organise a programme of events through the year, ranging from volunteer days working in the garden, outreach work with local resident's groups, parties and BBQ's and our annual agricultural show.
THE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE
The garden is maintained by our Community Gardener, Chris and by a team of volunteers. We provide a number of volunteer opportunities to work in the garden...
We work with a number of local groups to advise and assist with shared garden spaces.
We have worked with;
the West End Women's Institute to develop the church garden at St Georges Church Bloomsbury,
the residents at Sandringham Buildings, Charing Cross Road, to replant ground level beds and develop a new roof garden,
the residents at Wardour House, Soho, to install a new roof container garden.
If you would be interested in working with us to develop your shared garden then do get in touch.
We run occasional planting workshops to teach propagation skills; taking cuttings, growing from seed, growing houseplants.
We run the annual St Giles & Seven Dials In Bloom competition for local gardeners to win coveted prize rosettes and to gain recognition for their hard work in greening the area.
We organise community events and parties throughout the year. For information of what is coming up please see the 'What's On' pages.
THE PHOENIX GARDEN AGRICULTURAL SHOW & ST GILES FAYRE
Our big annual event is the Agricultural Show held in the first week of September. We use the garden and the adjoining St Giles-in-the-Fields churchyard to bring our take on a country show to the West End. Attractions have included; Punch & Judy, Morris dancers, Farm Animals, Fancy Pigeon displays, The WI cake stall and others. It is a great day out for all the family and is great fun!
